Senior Design Engineer – Project Manager

Position Summary
A+E is seeking a senior design engineer with a strong background in water, wastewater and stormwater planning, and design. The successful applicant will be responsible for managing small and large projects for planning and design of both linear and process treatment work. Work will involve a blend of analysis, layout and design, report writing, preparation of engineering design calculations, drawings and specifications, and field work. It is expected that this individual will be the main contact for clients, regulatory officials, vendors, manufacturers, subconsultants, and contractors and command a comprehensive understanding of the projects on which they are working and will answer questions and direct staff on these projects. It is expected that a Senior Engineer has a comprehensive knowledge of engineering, design, and construction principles and provides highly skilled technical and management advice and assistance to principals and personnel.

Required Skills
To be considered for this position, the following skills, or the appropriate background and interest in developing these skills, are required:

 Understanding of water, wastewater and stormwater design principles, including process treatment
 Familiarity with VT State Revolving Loan and USDA/RD funding programs and procurement process
 Familiarity with modeling tools such as WaterCAD and HydroCAD
 Experience with various water, wastewater and stormwater system designs
 Experience administering water, wastewater and stormwater system construction contracts
 Capacity to successfully manage multiple tasks, objectives, and assignments
 Excellent oral and written communication skills
 Motivation and enthusiasm to learn new skills
 Legally able to work in the United States (proper documentation required)

Required Education and Experience

 B.S. in Civil/Environmental Engineering
 15+ years of relevant experience in the technical skills areas described above
 Licensed Professional Engineer in Vermont or other State

Resident Project Representative

Position Type 
Seasonal, Hourly/Non-Exempt, Benefit Non-Eligible (except as established at hire)

Position Summary
A+E is seeking a Resident Project Representative who will serve as a Field Engineer. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in water, wastewater and stormwater construction. Act as directed by, and under the supervision of the Construction Project Manager, in matters pertaining to on-site work who may supervise other field personnel. It is expected that this individual will be the main contact for clients, regulatory officials, vendors, manufacturers, subconsultants, and contractors. They will ensure the smooth operation of projects and command a comprehensive understanding of the projects on which they are working and will answer questions and direct staff on these projects. It is expected that a Resident Project Representative has a comprehensive knowledge of construction principles and provides highly skilled technical and management advice and assistance to principals and personnel.

Primary Job Responsibilities
• Perform the duties of the Resident Project Representative as outlined in the Scope of Services of the Engineering Agreement for each specific project and as specified in the Contract Documents for each specific project.
• Assure that all project schedules are maintained and met.
• Schedule and attend all project conferences. Keep minutes and circulate, as necessary.
• Coordinate construction activities with Client’s needs to avoid/minimize conflicts and disruptions.
• Maintain a professional relationship with the Client and their staff.
• Serve as engineer’s liaison with contractor in the field.
• RPR responsible for abiding by all jobsite safety requirements (wear hard hat, safety glasses (where required), safety vest, etc.). Follow all requirements for confined space entry, entry in trench excavations, etc.
• Identify design questions, conflicts and work proactively with design engineer to resolve.
• Maintain all field sets of shop drawings.
• Responsible for review of work, rejection of defective work, all necessary inspections and testing.
• Responsible for interpretation of Contract Documents in consultation with the engineer of record.
• Maintain all field project records and files in an orderly system.
• Furnish daily reports of progress of the work.
• Review applications for payment.
• Responsible for the punch list, substantial and final completion inspections in consultation with the engineer of record.
