Senior Design Engineer

Position Summary

A+E is seeking a Senior Design Engineer with a strong background in water, wastewater, and stormwater planning and design. The successful applicant will be responsible for managing small and large projects for planning and design of both linear and process treatment work. Work will involve a blend of analysis, layout and design, technical writing, preparation of engineering design calculations, drawings and specifications, and field work. It is expected that this individual will be the main contact for clients, regulatory officials, vendors, manufacturers, subconsultants, and contractors and commend a comprehensive understanding of the projects on which they are working on and will answer questions and direct staff on these projects. It is expected that a Senior Engineer has a comprehensive knowledge of engineering, design, and construction principles and provides highly skilled technical and management advice and assistance to principals and personnel.

Required Skills

To be considered for this position, the following skills, or the appropriate background and interest in developing these skills, is required:

  • Understanding of water, wastewater and stormwater design principles, including process treatment
  • Familiarity with VT State Revolving Loan and USDA/RD funding programs and procurement process
  • Familiarity with modeling tools such as WaterCAD and HydroCAD
  • Experience with various water, wastewater and stormwater system designs
  • Experience administering water, wastewater and stormwater system construction contracts
  • Capacity to successfully manage multiple tasks, objectives, and assignments
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Motivation and enthusiasm to learn new skills
  • Legally able to work in the United States (proper documentation required)
Required Education and Experience
  • B.S. in Civil/Environmental Engineering
  • 10-12+ years of relevant experience in the technical skills described above
  • Licensed Professional Engineer in Vermont or on track to obtain it

Project Engineer

Position Summary

A+E is seeking a project engineer with 6-10 years of experience in water resource engineering planning, design and construction. The successful applicant will be responsible for assisting the Project Manager/Senior Engineer with solutions for complex engineering problems with minimum oversight and guidance. It is expected that this individual will have regular contact with clients, regulatory officials, vendors, manufacturers, subconsultants, and contractors and command a comprehensive understanding of the projects on which they are working on and will be able to answer questions regarding those projects. The Project Engineer is expected to have comprehensive knowledge of engineering, design, and construction principles and demonstrates a progressive understanding of new engineering, design, and construction principles.

Required Skills

To be considered for this position, the following skills, or the appropriate background and interest in developing these skills, are required:

  • Capable of individual project oversight with supervision from Project Managers
  • Capable of preparing task outlines and agreements
  • Capable of generating loan and grant applications for various phases of projects
  • Understanding of project financing and differences between funding sources
  • Understanding of staffing needs and capable of projecting workloads necessary for project completion
  • Understanding of project billing process
  • Participate in the preparation and review of Request for Proposals
  • Able to effectively and efficiently communicate with superiors regarding project related technical questions and workload requirements
  • Capacity to successfully manage multiple tasks, objectives, and assignments
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Motivation and enthusiasm to learn new skills
  • Legally able to work in the United States (proper documentation required)
Required Education and Experience
  • B.S. in Civil/Environmental Engineering

CAD/Survey/GIS Technician

Applicants should be technically proficient in AutoCAD Civil3D, field and survey skills, and GIS. This individual will be responsible for performing computer aided design (CAD), survey, GIS, and other tasks for various water, wastewater, stormwater and civil/site projects.

Effective communication, organization, and problem-solving skills are required. Strong computer skills including AutoCAD Civil3D (latest version), Microsoft applications, and other technical software are necessary. GIS experience is strongly preferred, but not required.
