Project Engineer

Position Summary

A+E is seeking a project engineer with 6-10 years of experience in water resource engineering planning, design and construction.  The successful applicant will be responsible for assisting the Project Manager/Senior Engineer with solutions for complex engineering problems with minimum oversight and guidance.  It is expected that this individual will have regular contact with clients, regulatory officials, vendors, manufacturers, subconsultants, and contractors and command a comprehensive understanding of the projects on which they are working and will be able to answer questions regarding those projects. The Project Engineer is expected to have comprehensive knowledge of engineering, design, and construction principles and demonstrates a progressive understanding of new engineering, design, and construction principles.

Required Skills

To be considered for this position, the following skills, or the appropriate background and interest in developing these skills, are required:

  • Capable of individual project oversight with supervision from Project Managers
  • Capable of preparing task outlines and agreements
  • Capable of generating loan and grant applications for various phases of projects
  • Understanding of project financing and differences between funding sources
  • Understanding of staffing needs and capable of projecting workloads necessary for project load completion
  • Understanding of project billing process
  • Participate in the preparation and review of SOQs, RFPs, etc.
  • Able to effectively and efficiently communicate with superiors regarding project related technical questions and workload requirements
  • Able to effectively and efficiently communicate with technical and administrative staff and provide direction for accomplishing project related tasks and/or objectives
  • Capacity to successfully manage multiple tasks, objectives, and assignments
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Motivation and enthusiasm to learn new skills
  • Legally able to work in the United States (proper documentation required)

Required Education and Experience

  • B.S. in Civil/Environmental Engineering
  • 6-10+ years of relevant experience in the technical skills areas described above
  • Licensed Professional Engineer in Vermont or on track to obtain it

Office Assistant

Position Summary

A+E is seeking an office assistant to provide exceptional public contact on the phones and in-person and administrative support to the company. This employee shall perform independent functions requiring the use of technical applications such as Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe. This employee must be organized, independent, and creative with a “can do” attitude. This position requires the aptitude to learn and grow and apply common sense to every situation. This is a 30-hour/week position.

Required Skills & Job Responsibilities

To be considered for this position, the following skills, or the appropriate background and interest in developing these skills, are required:

  • Provide primary telephone coverage and receive visitors at a superior level of service
  • Foster a professional company image through in-person, e-mail, and phone interactions
  • Perform the function of processing incoming and outgoing mail and shipping
  • Prepare documents such as proposals, reports, plans, and specifications for copying and distribution to external vendors
  • Perform technical typing including technical specifications, agreements, reports, forms and more
  • Operate office equipment and arrange for repairs when needed.
  • Compilation of weekly manpower assignments for distribution to staff
  • Out-processing of accounts payable and invoices
  • Scan documents and maintain electronic files
  • Support engineering staff with general office needs
  • Order office supplies and restock them in the common areas and make list of items needed to be ordered
  • Run miscellaneous errands (drop-off documents to clients, company vehicle service, supply pick-up, etc.)
  • Assist with arranging office functions
  • Must be a self-starter with the ability to work without direct supervision, think independently to problem solve, take the initiative to resolve administrative issues and evaluate alternatives or make recommendations, which requires independent judgement, tact and discretion
  • Must have knowledge of a variety of software applications, as well as the demonstrated ability to rapidly learn new Company-specific systems and processes. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) is required
  • Completes assignments efficiently and in a timely manner; works with minimal supervision
  • Demonstrates a commitment to quality and attention to detail

Required Education and Experience
