Jennie Auster, P.E. and Paul Olander presented together at the GMWEA Fall Conference on November 5th on Low Cost Nitrogen Removal Optimization Plans for WWTFs. As part of the Long Island Sound (LIS) Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) current implementation requirements for Vermont, development of a nitrogen optimization plan is a requirement in all permits for WWTFs in the Connecticut River Basin that are not designed for denitrification. The presentation reviewed Low Cost Nitrogen Optimization Plans developed for several Vermont facilities. Additionally, the reasons why facility management to achieve nitrogen removal optimization benefits all WWTFs was reviewed. If you would like to view the presentation you can do so by clicking here.
