A comprehensive refurbishment project was completed at the Brandon WWTF to address aging infrastructure, enhance preliminary treatment, improve secondary treatment, and increase operator flexibility. The project was joint funded by the VT CWSRF and USDA RD programs and construction was completed by Naylor and Breen.
Key elements of the project include:
- Screening Expansion of a pre-existing structure to house a new mechanically cleaned screen with 0.25″ openings. The configuration required a near vertical installation and careful consideration of classified spaces. The screen has drastically reduced ragging in downstream processes and improved reliability of the WWTF.
- Preliminary Treatment the three (3) influent pumps and original grit-removal systems were replaced in-kind and support infrastructure was refurbished for continued operation.
- Biological Treatment One of the oxidation ditch rotors was replaced and both units received new variable frequency drives to improve energy efficiency.
- Secondary Clarification Construction of a new 35-ft diameter secondary clarifier was completed to enhance treatment capacity during wet-weather events. The two existing clarifiers were refurbished and a new clarifier distribution structure was constructed to evenly split flow.
- Disinfection Upgrades were completed to the chemical storage building, including the storage tanks, venting, and chemical fill systems to improve operator safety and improve treatment reliability.
- Age-Related Upgrades The facility’s electrical service was upgraded to improve efficiency, new facility lighting was installed, and large sections of the WWTF were repaved.
