South Burlington Storage Tank

Construction is currently underway on the City of South Burlington’s new 2.1 million gallon welded steel water storage tank. The project will provide increased storage capacity and improved system reliability for the City’s High Service area and help support CWD’s vast distribution network across Chittenden County.

A+E was originally selected to conduct an investigatory study and produced a preliminary engineering report which summarized current system needs and conditions. Considerations included current usage, allocations, and water supply rule requirements. Beyond the technical challenges of the project Aldrich + Elliott assisted with identifying local and federal grant programs and helped the City secure a CRRP grant to fund the project.

Aldrich + Elliott then provided final design services and help secure necessary permits for construction of the new water storage tank. Unique challenges included a shallow ledge profile requiring blasting for construction, and construction within the existing City-owned plot. The project required a construction permit from Vermont DEC, Act 250 approval, and local zoning approval. A+E assisted the City with all requisite permits and successfully conducted a competitive bidding process for construction.

Construction began in late spring of 2025 and is slated to be completed by the spring of 2026.
